2003 Chevrolet SSR

Few concept vehicles have captured the public's imagination as has the Chevrolet SSR (Super Sport Roadster). Expertly blending two of America's favorite modes of transportation, SSR is at once a roadster and a pickup truck. The styling is quintessentially American, yet contemporary - uniquely nostalgic, yet innovative. SSR features an Art Deco-styled front grille design with a horizontal cross-car bar and an integrated Chevy bowtie. The result is a powerful front focal point. Other strong styling elements are found in SSR's fender flares - more outrageous than any of SSR's predecessors.

Further upping the pizzazz appeal is SSR's all-aluminum 5.3-liter V-8 engine and the Hydra-Matic 4L60-E transmission - the same transmission used in the Chevrolet Corvette. This four-speed electronic transmission was selected for its durability, low weight and the ability to optimize its electronic controls for performance-oriented shifting.

Aiding both performance and traction is SSR's Torsen Traction Differential on the rear axle. The Torsen differential distributes the engine's power to the wheel with the most traction, reacting instantly before any wheel slip can occur.The Torsen Traction Differential will work seamlessly with the standard traction control system to give the SSR strong performance in driving maneuvers - such as aggressive acceleration and cornering - and a wide variety of road conditions.
